An ontological structure for semantic interoperability of GIS and environmental modeling
نویسندگان
چکیده
Service oriented architecture in a distributed computing environment, with loosely coupled geo-services is a new approach for using GIS services in environmental modeling. The messages exchanged must follow a set of standard protocols which support syntactic interoperability, but do not address application semantics. This article proposes a layer-based ontology with additional layers for describing geoservices, especially the measurement units used. The paper gives an ontology of measurements for describing the input and output of field-based geo-services and a core ontology of geo-services containing the domain concepts. An upper ontology adds new general concepts to an existing ontology in order to achieve an agreement between geoservice developers and environmental modelers. The layer-based structure is the building block for discovering geo-services that support semantic interoperability in GIS and environmental modeling.

A Formal Ontological Structure for Semantic Interoperability of GIS and Environmental Modeling
Most of the environmental problems have an obvious spatial dimension and Geographic Information System (GIS) are widely used for solving environmental problems. متن کاملA Methodology Based on Ontology for Geo-Service Discovery
Due to popular use of internet and fast progress of communications technology, the researches related to GIS in environmental models is being focused to use Geospatial Information System (GIS) in a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). In this architecture, the geo service requesters can access the provided geo-services through the communication network by using client/server method. Effectivene...
متن کاملSemantic interoperability of GIS and MCDA tools for environmental assessment and decision making
A promising approach to environmental assessment and decision making analyses is based on integrating Multicriteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and GIS tools. Integration of GIS and MCDA tools can be potentially achieved through interoperability, where these tools can exchange relevant information to tackle a particular environmental problem. However, the problem of semantic heterogeneity caused b...
متن کاملOntology-Based Metadata
Metadata are an extant mechanism for conveying ontological information about semantic data. Metadata have the advantage of being institutionally and structurally ensconced in GIS. At present, however, they lack fields to express information beyond the technical and geometric domain. This paper describes a framework for the creation of extended metadata for non-spatial attributes, with the goal ...
متن کاملGeospatial Interoperability in Modeling Frameworks - The ‘GEOLEM’ Approach
Environmental models and modeling frameworks typically do not represent geographic information in a way that enables the direct translation of this information between geographic information systems (GIS) and the model or modeling framework. Parameters of the characteristics of geographic features are processed as part of a model’s mathematical solution and are thus explicitly represented in th...
